3.0 Number Matters!

Hohoho! First of all, CONGRATULATIONS for arriving at the final question!!! (for this week's session anyway :P)
okay, without further ado, let's take a look at the question.

"QUESTION 3
From the story above so far, how many victims are there? Explain."

At the first glance, this question would really seem like a piece of cake huh? Or is it?
To solve this question, let us trace back our footsteps right from the start.

First of all, parts of a skull and skeleton remains are found.Analyze was carried out at first sight and characteristics of the possible Doe were made out:

1. The Doe is a child. How did we arrived to this conclusion? Well simply because the size of a child's skull is generally smaller than of an adult's. Besides that, the approximate age of the skull can also be determined through analyzing the sutures and also the tooth eruption dates of the skull.

2. Gender of the skull? Unfortunately, we did not have sufficient information to come to a conclusion of whether the skull is of a John Doe or a Jane Doe. This is mainly because despite we have been explaining so much regarding the differences that are exhibited by the skulls of different gender, the skull that we have collected at the crime scene belonged to a child. This indicates that the skull has yet to pass puberty to exhibit any characteristics appropriate to its sex.

While many of you might start to jump into conclusions that there is only 1 victim, we the Dental Investigators would beg to differ.
Just hang in there and think it through.

Has the crime scene investigation unit conduct a thorough search at all perimeters of the crime scene? Were all the evidence retrieved or even suggested that there is only one victim? Did all the body parts found came from one, same body?
All these questions can only lead to one explanation: The evidence retrieved was insufficient to make any deduction on the exact number of victims.
Hence the DIs have come to a conclusion that the number of victims  ≥ 1 based on the interpretations above.

Well that's it for this week. Hope you had a nice time drilling your brain and figuring out the answers for the questions! Stay tuned for Part 2 of the case where we will uncover more of the science behind the investigations.
